A vintage Hercules bike with plenty of nice touches like the leather saddle (three springs fit for a king) or the original gear changer (see more pictures on gumtree). Hercules was an English bicycle founded in Aston in 1910. The mascot of Aston Villa football club is called Hercules the Lion after this firm who claimed to be the biggest cycle producing company in the world in the thirties.

Last week on an overcast afternoon I went to Hampton Court, Royal Palace just outside London, famous abode of Henry the VIII (the english king with far too many wives). A sometime awkward mix of Tudor and neo-classical architecture and a little bit of everything in between, the grounds alone are worth the visit. Some of its treasures: the longest vine in the world, a fantastic rose garden, a very famous maze a la Alice in Wonderland, and last but not least the very first real tennis court (we call it Jeu de Paume across the Channel). Any other I have missed?

I went to see the Broken Records at the ICA on Tuesday night and it was a great little gig. I got to know them through a common friend and the singer went to the same uni as me and all that: it's quite special having seen them through a few years now. I wish the band the best of luck this summer: with their new and first album released they have got Glastonbury, Green Man, Leeds and Reading festivals lined up. Check out their new single Until the Earth Begins to Part, listen to them some more, enjoy and share!
