Just a moment

London life, a dash of tango and a spoon full of sounds

Snow in London

Early morning pictures of some unusual amount of snow in London. The best part of it is the muffled city soundscape... How does it look this morning outside your window?

Wave of brass

(download)

After getting warmed up by a great set from Karen P., the main course came to Cargo tonight with Tony Allen, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and a swarm of special guests. The afrobeats of the legendary drummer weaved into some seriously cool grooves got the energy flowing. The raw booming brass got the crowd thumping for more. Who doesn't need this kind of music to put a smile back on London's January face?

(Apologies for the quality of the video...)

Walking with a friend in the dark is better...

...than walking alone in the light.

This is a quote by Helen Keller and somehow I think it speaks of Tango. Looking forward to Alejandro y Marisol dancing in London in March.

Cildo Meireles Retrospective

On the back of a fascinating conversation around sculpture and senses, I was recommended the exhibition at the Tate Modern showcasing the work of the Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles over the last few decades. I remember vividly a few years back watching with surprise and delight, a blind woman delicately discovering with her wrinkled fingers the details of a marble face in the Musee Rodin in Paris. My instinctive reaction to sculpture and installations is simple: I want to touch.

  • the Through installation, walking on layers of broken glass in a labyrinth of opacity. Delightful and challenging to get your feet involved.
  • the Babel installation, tower of radios, buttons, dials and mesh. Wished people to tune in and make the installation alive and changing.

Au pays des merveilles

I went to see Alice Russell a few years back in the Jazz Cafe in Camden after seeing her a few times with the Quantic Soul Orchestra. I was blown away.I vividly remember going to meet her after the gig, she was signing CDs. she had gone down stage and suddenly disappeared. Getting closer I suddenly realised that Alice was this tiny little thing burstling with smiles and energy. That huge voice of hers had projected a much taller woman on the concert stage. Check her out in this full length concert, To know this is an old favourite of mine.

By the way, FabChannel is a great service to watch entire concert streaming. Highly recommended to check it out.
